BAT Buyer's Guide — TradieCart

This guide is here to help you choose the right BAT product for your job. BAT Trims is an Australian-owned, Melbourne-based manufacturer (since 1985) — the largest tiling-trims maker in the Southern Hemisphere — with a deep range of profiles plus tilers' tools.

Choosing the Right Tiling Trim

A quick decoder before you buy:

  • L-Angle (square edge) — protects tile corners; clean modern look. The everyday workhorse.
  • Round / Half-Round — softer edge for bath hobs, benchtops, or capping wall tiles.
  • Cove — radius between wall and floor; hygienic finish for commercial kitchens and food-prep areas.
  • Diminishing / Transition — ramps between two flooring heights to remove trip hazards.
  • Waterstop (Geometric Angle) — wet-area threshold to hold water back at shower entries.
  • Balcony Edge — drainage trim with weep holes for tiled balconies and decks.
  • Decorative Y-Section — polished finish over mitred 90° tile corners (bath hobs, columns, benchtops).

Pick the size to match your tile thickness (most trims are sized 6–25mm). Pick the material based on environment: Aluminium for general use, Brass for chemical resistance, Stainless 316 for pools and harsh wet areas.

  • Two aluminium tiers (Premium AA / Project PA) so you can match spec to budget without changing supplier.
  • Compliance options for commercial work — AS Access & Mobility-compliant diminishing trims and Grade 316 stainless for harsh environments.

  • Backed by a national branch network for trade supply.

Common Questions

What's the difference between the Premium (AA) and Project (PA) aluminium tiling angles? — Same profile and dimensions; the AA range uses higher-grade aluminium with a wider colour and finish selection, while the PA range is a budget-friendly option for jobs where finish is less critical.

How do I pick the right trim size? — The trim size (e.g. 6mm, 10mm, 12mm) refers to the height of the profile leg, which needs to match your tile thickness plus the adhesive bed so the trim sits flush with the tile face once installed. A typical adhesive bed is around 1–2mm, so most tilers go one size up from the tile thickness — a 10mm tile commonly pairs with a 12mm trim. BAT angles are available from 4mm to 25mm in 3m lengths.

Aluminium, brass or stainless steel — which one should I use? — Aluminium for standard interior tiling, brass for areas exposed to cleaning chemicals or constant moisture (and where you want a brass look), and Grade 316 stainless for pools, commercial wet areas and salt-exposed environments.

What's the difference between the standard and Commercial Diminishing Trim? — The standard trim is a general-purpose ramp between flooring heights. The Commercial version meets AS Access & Mobility (Ramped Threshold) requirements with a lower gradient — use it on jobs where DDA/accessibility compliance is needed.

Can I use the Co-Pro Corner Protection Trim on existing tiles? — Yes — it's designed for retrofit. The pre-applied adhesive tape lets you protect or repair tiled corners without removing tiles or re-grouting.

Do tiling angles come in colours other than silver? — Yes — the Premium (AA) range includes Matt White, Matt Black, Gloss Black, Gloss White, Bright Silver, Mill Finish, Brushed Gold, Brushed Silver, Bright Gold, Gunmetal and more.
