Dribond Patch & Anchor

Fast setting patching compound

Description

A fast setting, non-shrink, polymer modified cement patching and anchoring compound for concrete, cement render, blockwork, brickwork and masonry surfaces.

Uses

Patching – honeycombed, spalled, cracked, damaged concrete, floors, driveways, bridge
decks, curbs.
Repair – damaged block and brickwork. Heat and water resistant grout for barbecues and furnaces.
Anchoring – grout for bolts, posts, rods, pipes, wrought iron railings, machinery bolts.
Leaks – can be used for stopping small leaks
in tanks etc.

Features

  • Develops very high strengths
  • Non-shrink
  • High bond strength to masonry surfaces, i.e. concrete, brick, block
  • Very low water absorption when set
  • Does not contain calcium chloride, therefore will not corrode anchor bolt and reinforcing steel
  • Cement colour match

Coverage

(Approximate) 15kg/m2 at 6mm thickness.

Perfomance Data

Compression Strength (BS4551)
1 Day 19.3MPa, 7 Day 27.7MPa, 28 Days 34.5MPa

Specification

The Patching/Anchoring compound shall have a minimum compression strength of 34MPa, such as Patch & Anchor manufactured by Construction Chemicals and shall be applied in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

Surface Preparation

The area to be patched must be thoroughly clean and free of dust, dirt, grease, paint, efflorescence and other contaminants. Dirty greasy areas must be degreased and thoroughly washed clean. Loose concrete and rusty steel should be removed by sand blasting, chisel and hammer, wire brush or jack hammer. Extremes of repair area must be recessed at least 10mm to avoid feather edging. Thoroughly wet and scrub the area to be treated immediately prior to applying the patch. Apply a batter or paint consistency mix of Patch & Anchor over prepared reinforcing rods and the area to be patched, ensuring that all the steel is covered.

Mixing

The material sets rapidly, therefore do not mix more than can be mixed and applied before the material sets. A small test mix is suggested. Depending on the desired consistency, 5-6 litres of water can be added to a 20kg bag. 5 litres will produce a non-slump grout for vertical and overhead use. More water produces a better flow for horizontal repairs and anchoring.
Mix small quantities with a bucket and mixing paddle. Place water in mixing container and add powder to it, mixing to a lump free putty consistency. Do not over mix as material sets quickly. More water can be added in the first few minutes but do not add water after this time and discard unused material after the set time. Coarse aggregate can be added by up to 30% by weight when exceeding 30mm thickness. Aggregate must not be greater than half the depth of the patch and must be mixed with the powder before mixing with water. When anchoring make the hole a minimum of twice the diameter of bolt, rod or post. When bonding to non-porous surfaces, metal surfaces and when curing is not possible in hot dry conditions, or to mixes under 10mm thick in hot conditions – replace a litre of mixing water with 1 litre of Acrybond.

Application

Apply a thick creamy consistency coat of Patch & Anchor to prepared patches. Place the mixture firmly into patch, rod or tamp the mixture to avoid air pockets. Single layer thickness patching is dependant on material consistency and substrate profile. Normal thicknesses are 30mm on vertical surfaces and 20mm on soffits. Subsequent layers must be applied immediately after initial set of preceding layer. If an extended period between layers is inevitable the preceding layer should be mechanically keyed and primed.

Patching in Layers

Patch & Anchor must be placed and levelled within 10-20 minutes. Apply in successive 10 to 30mm layers. Apply successive coats within 15 to 20 minutes over the preceding coat, which has been cooled with water and the surface roughened. Steel trowel the finished patch and cool down and cure the surface for 45-60 minutes with water or wet hessian.

Open Time

Open time is approximately 15 mins @ 23°C.

Curing

Moist curing Patch & Anchor is essential to
obtain maximum strengths. Cure the surface
with fog spray for the first 24 hours and keep
the surface wet for 6 days. The longer the cure,
the greater the strength.
