Keratrade SMP is a high-performance, sprayable contact adhesive primer designed for use with Optiseal Sheet Membrane and various other materials. It offers superior adhesion to hard-to-stick substrates, including decorative plastic laminates (e.g. Formica®, Laminex®), timber, timber composites, cementitious composites, metals (ferrous and non-ferrous) and polyurethane foam. Ideal for use in boat and automotive interiors, Keratrade SMP provides strong, durable bonds for Optiseal Sheet Membrane, laminating and upholstery trimming.

Uses

Internal / External. Foot traffic: 12 hrs. Work time: 30 min. Tack time: 15 min. Full use: 24 hrs.

Coverage

Up to 10 m² per litre on a single surface (approximately 200 m² per 20kg unit using a nap roller).

Application

• Ensure surfaces are clean, dry and free from contaminants. Clean unpainted metals and rubbers with acetone; clean painted and plastic surfaces with isopropanol.
• Apply using spray equipment (suction feed or pressure pot) with an even coating on both surfaces — at least 80% coverage on each surface and 100% on edges to be post-formed.
• For highly porous or absorbent surfaces, apply two coats, allowing the first coat to tack off before applying the second.
• Allow to dry for 10–15 minutes (until the surface can be touched without adhesive transfer), then align and press surfaces together using a minimum pressure of 280 kPa (40 psi). For best results, bond within 20 minutes of application.
• Allow the adhesive to cure for at least seven days before exposing bonded materials to high temperatures.

Limitations

• Not suitable for bonding copper, highly reactive metals, expanded polystyrene foam, polyethylene or polypropylene plastics.
• Not recommended for unbacked PVC, leather or vinyl (may cause staining on light-coloured PVC/vinyl).
